movie star crush
one night, many years ago, i walked up to the ridge theatre to see my friend bill baker-mint records bill baker not tattoo bill baker, who was there taking tickets at the door. we were going out to do something, i think, it doesn't matter it just mattered that i was there that night. the film that was on was 'simple men' by hal hartley. i was floored by it. completely. it was like the type of film i had been waiting all my life to see. there was something about hartley's directing style and the wrting that was unlike anyhting i had seen before. but this is not about the film i saw that night, it's about what happened afterwards. i rented another film by hal hartley, 'the unbelieveable truth' and was stuck by an actress in the film. it was there, in my apartment in kits that i developed a huge crush on Adrienne Shelly. she also appeared in another hartley film 'trust'. i would later lose track of her film career but would see her from time to time on tv, law and order, etc...
tonight i was surfing the net as i watched tv and somehow navigated my way to the hal hartley website. i noticed that hal had made a few films i had not seen, one of which stars parker posey-who i also have a crush on, but also noticed a note regarding Adrienne Shelly's death in novemebr. i was a little stunned that i had not heard of this.
i don't have anything really to say about this i just wanted to put in my bit about her and her death. you should go rent one of her movies. i haven't seen those hartley movies for a long time and can only hope they have stood the test of time.
if you're interested check out these links to her work and news regarding her death.

Murdered by a construction worker after complaining about the noise they were making? That's fucked up. Tragic for sure.
