popsickles and fan experiments

the office is no place to be on days like these but in order to get shit done, it's where i am...the fans help to a certain, no pun intended, degree, but overall they really are just blowing hot air around. last night at home i decided to try more of an extraction method to the air circulation rather than just blowing it aimlessly around. i took my large vintage fresh-n-air fan and directed it out the balcony doors trying to pull the hot air out of the room...i also turned up my ceiling fan to push the air down and into the fan now pointed out...worked pretty well, in about 1/2 an hour it was much cooler...give 'er a go if yer hurtin' for certain. i've done the same here today at the shop...one fan near me giving me some goodness and another pointed out the door...seems to be working.
neil, bomber and all-around good guy, was by the shop yesterday. neil does bodywork and painting of cars and gets his supplies next door at the body shop supply house so we see him once in a while..i ran into him just as i was getting back from buying some popsickle type snacks at save-on-foods and gave him one to make his drive back to his shop in ladner a little better...i'm looking forward to doing some bombing soon...
cut again yesterday...two lawns during my lunch hour and then two more after work...i've never sweat this much ever cutting grass as i have this week...i'm blowing through the fluids i keep in the car...one more tonight and then the fawnz's tomorrow morning...good thing i keep a few extra t-shirts in my car...
have a great friday! stay cool...

proud. i am.

a few weeks ago marcy decided she'd like to start a blog and enlisted me as her teacher in the ways of the blog...not that i'm any sort of genius in this regard but i can make posts happen. well, now she has one and i feel so proud of her. not for the blog but for what she's doing and the path she's decided to take and all that it entails. but as for the blog, it's a great read - that girl is a very fine writer -, a great journey you can take with her as she re-discovers her love of horses, not that it went away, it was just postponed for a while.

check it out here.

you know what's hot?

well...to some it's shirtless firemen washing the fire truck out front of a fire hall, to others it's bikini clad women walking along the beach laughing with each other...to me...it was cutting the grass in north vancouver after work last night...the temp. sign along main street in north van. last night said 100 degrees...i know it was off a little but it was fucking hot...i have a client there who has a rather large lawn and i only do their place once in a while - it just happened that yesterday was one of those times...by the end of it i was completely soaked in sweat....it looked as if someone had dumped a large bucket of water over my head. i've got another to do tonight after work so i'm really looking forward to that...the heat wave really has hurt the old lawn order business but there are still lawns to take care of, if for no other reason than to cut the weeds down and just do a nice little clean-up...always looks better...sometime this week i have to get out to fawn's and give her new lawn a little going over...maybe i'll go saturday morning and see if she'll make me a smoothie...
ok...off to work i go...our office/shop is very hot...we went out and bought a few more fans but really, we're just moving hot air around...good times...we've started in on a new show that will take us into the new year...more as that develops...
ok...fuck it's hot...

have a great wed....find some shade.

hit it where they ain't...

the mariners didn't do that today and the indians really worked that drill to perfection...
i made my way to seattle this morning and after securing some free parking - nice - i walked to the park and started my negotiations with the ticket scalpers...i seem to be doing a lot of negotiating this week...they're an odd bunch those ticket guys. i didn't get a great deal but a great seat in the shade - which was great since it was in the 90's in seattle today...the mariners got beat up pretty badly, 12-3 by the indians, but i still loved being there...it was a great day for baseball. i even had myself a little polish sausage and a huge coke....the woman in front of me couldn't stop eating and it was kinda freakin' me out...she had those garlic fries that make me wanna hurl when i smell them, nachos, a hot dog, drinks...it was like the time the garbs and i went to see the mariners and these kids sat behind us, with each one of them eating something different - the mixture of smells was intense...
after the game i drove around a little and then headed to bimbos for an early dinner...a nice shredded beef wet burrito...they make a good burrito those kids...good lemonade there too...then it was time to head home - after a short shop at trader joe's...i took larry so there was no a/c in the car so i was one sweaty mess by the time i made it through the border - with more weird questions....the action at the border on the way down was good too..but i can't re-count it now...just kinda ridiculous...and because i know now that i'm probably gonna make it through just fine, i just relax and answer the questions, laugh a little inside and drive away in the end...what else can i do...?

ok...have a great monday...

g. xo

the view from my seat. the cmaera makes it look far but it wasn't at all...great seat.

she loves them nachos.

view from the outfield over the bullpen.

halway through...so fucking good...

more safeco field.

egg muffins, good e.mails and bike riding...

nancy loves the meinhardt coffee..

i started out my day yesterday by hitting the old public transit and heading up to meinhardt to meet up with nancy and have one of their egg muffins...somewhat like a mickey d's but better...lindsay was there as well but she was manning the fort at picnic next door...i have to admit i like sitting in front of meinhardt eating some snacks...i think lindsay believes i never work and lead some sort of life of leisure...
yesterday it was like a meeting place of sorts as well...as nancy and i were eating neil wedman and his wife tina (?) came trucking along - neil actually hobbling a little as he, appparently, broke his ankle in late december falling on some ice...he's on the mend though and looking dapper as usual. as we were talking to them barb bernath came up as well, as she works across from meinhardt at the windsor gallery...nice to see all those folks...
after breakfast i headed down and saw the kids on the island and had a coffee...i didn't have any agenda so it was nice to just hang out with mishi and have a little relax..
later i remembered that lindsay, queen of the meinhardt sandwich, had asked me if i had any fake blood - well, i sure do - and could she get some for a little movie she was helping out on? sure...so i took the bike and rode out to the shop and decanted a little for her...happy i/we can help out with some little movie projects...she was happy...and that's good...
then it was dinner time...
sara and i decided that her pal, J.R. , who's in town for a bit, should be taken out for some topanga goodness...so i headed over there in larry and away we went...J.R. seemed to like topanga.. a lot and we had a very nice dinner...good guy...and he enjoyed the ride in larry, especially the part where i said it was ok if he smoked in the back...
i'm thinking of heading to seattle this morning, even though i couldn't find anyone who wanted to go with me, to see the mariners game...maybe, maybe not...we'll see...game's at 1:00 pm...i still have some time to decide...

have fun today...

Smithers version of the goodness

muc saw 'the goodness' that was cam and jess's meal on the road (the great carne asada number...) and thought we/i should see the goodness smithers style...i'm not sure what it is but i think it may be trout cooked-up smithers style..nice...
i love that guy! and he obviously knows how to cook a piece of fish...

i hear you knockin'

i have, seemingly, been glued to my chair this morning, answering e.mails, chatting with my pal jerry about a variety of subjects, getting up every once in a while to do something domestic - prune/deadhead the flowers on the deck, put some laundry in, etc...but i really do need to get going - even though i have nothing i really need to get done. maybe this is a real slacker day off...hhmmm..
after my dinner last night with the lovely juliette i have been in a bit of a state...all those fucking numbers and...anyhow...it was great to see her and have dinner and chat and write shit down and see what's what...she's wicked!
maybe i'll do some housecleaning to take my mind of things and then go roam the streets a little..maybe a mid-day movie would be a good distraction...ok...i'm over thinking - as usual...back to the domestic duties...

i love you all...

oh...here's another toy you need...more coming in later days...in case you're thinking of becoming a toy collector...

dinner and drinks...

and not likely there will be dancing...but, with juliet, you never know...
i'm having dinner tonight with juliet nicoll - the queen of mount pleasant - to discuss a little real estate action and try and come to some sort of plan of attack - or if i should even attack at all...it'll be nice to see her either way. i first met her when i was hanging around the block clothing store on cordova st. many years ago and she was making jewelry that was being sold there...she was pals with the gals there and also with megan, i believe...she's moved through a few jobs, as we all have and now is doing real estate and has become the gal in mt. pleasant...so if you need a place up with the hipsters...good sort that girl.
i also had a longish conversation with a mortgage broker she suggested so...maybe i am really thinking of this thing....
more details as they develop...or not.

on the way here today riding my bike along the seawall or whatever it's called past the new soon to be completed (ha ha ha ha right...) olympic village i noticed a couple funny signs...you can buy one of the condos down there as the 'ultimate olympic souvenir' (the mold being the little extra gift to you - no charge...) or simply just drop in and have a look at the village and get a collector's pin...so worth it...
so come on down to the island and i'll make you a sandwich...i may even have some nice juice to offer you...

have a great monday

cam lays it out

cam has, once again, brought home the goodness from elsewhere - but i such a way it makes you want to hop in a car and seek out the goodness he has presented to you in jpeg form...

says cam of the burrito photos i have shown in the past...

"Ya its like you have spawned a now imitated style of Burrito photography... first the whole, then the second with splayed knife and fork... I forgot the empty plate shot. "

"A new Vancouver School of food photographs is developing. It would actually be a funny concept for a small photo show... Jess and I have always enjoyed the plate setting photos, and you definitely have a unique style! "

thanks cam and jess...

and here now the carne asada from sheridan, wyoming. nice work. i'm so proud right now...

get your passports out....we're heading to surrey.

i stopped and grabbed a slurpee on the way outta surrey...why does every slurpee counter look like this....?

without thinking about it, as in no decision was made in advance to eat indian food before we headed out to surrey to the fusion fest, after we finished at the shop - sara needed to print off some stuff to help make her famous...or more famous or something - we went to a place for indian food on hastings for dinner...it was good...then we headed out to surrey and the world famous surrey fusion fest...which when we got there was a serious bhangra fest...so having eaten indian food in advance we were already in a festive indian mood....and if we had been thinking, or i had been thinking, we would have thought that they may have had a food fair at the fusion fest, which they did, and we could have had a little food from india, some first nations fare, some chinese, etc...but no...we went full indian...not that i regret it...just, i could have sucked down some crazy noodles or something before the joel plaskett rock action...
after finding parking, a little bit of a test where i had a minor meltdown, it was all good and we were on our way into the fusion fest...
we found marcy and byron and before long there he was, mr. plaskett and his band the emergency and while, initially, i was a little bummed at his first few numbers - he seemed to be playing to the family crowd - which he kinda has to at a function such as that, he opened 'er up and let it go soon after and i can't say i've seen a better live performer in a long time. a true entertainer. i'm glad we made the trek out to the old surrey fusion fest...

rock action in surrey

sara likes the rock action...

so does marcy...

byron can't get enough of it...

an all lyndsay saturday...

it was a day of errands and delivering fans and watching people and eating egg muffin things and big coffee drinks and driving of larry and riding of my bike and....just getting shit down doncha know..
tonight we're heading out to surrey, yup that surrey, to see (hopefully) joel plaskett and the emergency...rock and roll action from halifax. marcy loves the plaskett and knows i do as well, but i've never seen him in person, so she called me and let me know he was playing the surrey fusion festival for free..so...off we go...i say hopefully see mr. plaskett because it's a free thingy and it's surrey and joel's kinda popular with the kids so, it could be busy...we'll see...hopefully it'll be easy and fun and some wicked rock action...
lyndsay, jj bean lyndsay not sandwich queen lindsay - who i also saw today - was complaining the other day that chris was getting more face time on the blog than she was so...i present to you...more of lyndsay...

have fun....

distant lawns and missing finger bits

this morning i went out and mowed the west vancouver action - lawns that i haven't touched in weeks due to the lack of rain...i love the sun, it's good, but it's fucking my lawn cutting...like my therapy's been taken away. bummer.
anyhow.
after the west van action i headed home and had a shower and then went and met my pal nancy for a snack down on marine drive...they have one of those fancy new cactus club places down there...and i know i've said it before, recently, but, i'll say it again - the food there is pretty fuckin' good...i'm not a fennie fan but...good snacks..and nancy's wicked so...good times...
then it was time to cross the bridge, well, two of them, and go give fawn and dave's new lawn a good lawn order cut...i was so proud to give that lawn a cut...looked good too...

sara and i hung out today down in coal harbour while her geezers - tour patrons - took a little look around by themselves and watched all the touristos scurrying about...and after she dropped me off i kept thinking that there was somewhere i was suppose to be...but i couldn't remember...then, as i was sitting in my gonch at my house thinking how good it was to be home...it hit me...i was suppose to be at moderne burger having dinner with jessica and judy...oopps...so off i went...

and i can't re-count the whole story here but...jessica, on sunday, had a little accident involving a cable, a dog jumping off a porch and her grabbing the cable, that resulted in her finger getting caught in a loop on the cable and it, the cable loop, taking off the top third of her finger...yikes...anyways...not so good but after a few stories of other severed this and that and stitches in this and that, she felt better and we had some good laughs...nice to finally have dinner with those two...like family.
ok...back to the couch and my gonch.

pulling a bowie..maybe....

ch-ch-ch-changes...man, that's lame but in this case it may be true. i think frampton had an album called changes as well...but as i sit and think and ponder this, possible, move, it becomes apparent that to make it work, in a fashion that is comfortable to me, i need to make some short term pain, long term gain type changes.
one that may be a good way to up the down payment is to sell my motorcycle. sure, i've had it for almost 20 years but i don't ride it as much as i once did - due to work and other reasons - and it would put some good cash in my pocket so...one idea.
another is to sell some of the kaws toys i have less of serious attachment to. i have four or five that i could sell and make some bucks on and add that to the pot. i also have a few random toys that i could put on the block as well that wouldn't bring nearly as much $$ but would help a little. also, there's much less space to display the toys at the new place and i'm not looking to store toys in boxes so i'd rather pass them on/sell them than hide them...i also have a few bucks in the bank i could add and maybe if i did these things i'd have a better shot at living somewhere that's not a shit hole... not that my place is a shit hole but this 'hood sure is...
anyhow..e.mails have been sent to my pal the realtor, calls have been made on my behalf and more calls are gonna be made to my bank to see if i'm in the ball park at all...
more as it develops...

for the love of caffiene and a good sandwich

another day, another day at the pickle...i've said it before, and i'll say it again..one of the things i like about hanging at the pickle is going and getting meats and cheese and making my own little version of the poorboy sandwich - no condiments or crap, just bread and the basics...good stuff. i feel kinda like i'm on vacation - when marcy and i were in france we often bought the goods and ate them in the car or wherever....it was good.

i also like going and bothering the kids at the jj bean. yesterday i needed a load of caffiene and love the fresca medici - i made-up drink that sounds somewhat traditional and is basically a cold coffee beverage that's blended but is more of a blended drink for those who actually like the taste of coffee - not like a frappachino or whatever...but i told them yesterday that i wanted an 'el grande' version of that drink...they then proceeded to give me the gears about ordering a drink 'grande' like they do at starbucks...but i had to point out to them that i had said 'el grande' and that grande is an actual word in another language - several in fact - and that when i'm in certain mexican taquerias the word grande is used generously and that starbucks doesn't have the patent on the word grande...they in turn wrote on the side of my cup what i ordered..which i didn't but it looks good written down on the side...fuckers...and since it was a big version of the usually small sized fresca medici, i was a little jazzed-up after i drank it...nice.
ok..i need a coffee now...
