there's no way to tell by the first kiss.

as a general rule i could give a shit about bob dylan. sure, he's a poet. ok, blonde on blonde...sure, sure. and we all love rainy day women. yup. and that folk electric crossover shit was amazing - for it's time. but he's really a mumbler with a guitar. (send the hate mail to.....)
but there are dylan songs and albums that are great. infidels is one of them. i can only really deal with dylan albums that came out after i had gotten into music as a serious hobby. does that make sense? albums from 1962 mean very little to me - not to say i can't see the importance, i can, just not in my world. let's say after 1974 things became a little more in focus for me. my formative rock and roll years - kiss-destroyer, sweet-desolation blvd, foghat-rock and roll outlaws, elton john-goodbye yellow brick road and rock of the westies rolling stones-some girls, etc...these days are well remembered.
infidels fits in as an album that brings back thoughts of my early days in college radio doing shows with barry, guido and capt. ned (chris helgren). late nights sneeking into the UBC pool and swimming in our underwear with our gilrfriends and staying up late pretty much every day of the week even though we all had jobs that required us to be chipper in the morning. fuck that.
this is an album you should own even if you hate bob dylan. i'm not sure, and don't care, what kind of reviews it got when it was originally released but, it's a good one.

Oh God. Bob Dylan is a genius. He felt so alienated by the following he created that he eventually tried to alienate them with each new album. He couldn't stand all the attention he recieved for creating music that defined, questioned and answered(?) the times in which he lived. He's almost the original rapper (Subterannian Homesick Blues) and his music stands the test of time. He sucked the the last 2 times I saw him but I still revere him. I know you don't like him but he's one of a kind.
