a general lack of laminate, nice legs tobe and the return of the princess

more proof today that vancouver really is a small town disguised as a larger metro area. if you ever really need anything slightly left of centre, you're fucked. sure the home depot has the basics but step outside of that and again, you're fucked. and even if you venture to rona or windsor plywood or....you're still gonna be fucked. most things need to be special ordered here. why? well, one of the main reasons is that most people - not those of you reading this of course - but the general population doesn't want anyhting unique. they want the regular shit baby. today i drove all over vancouver in search of tabletop laminate that wasn't black, white or some other fucked-up speckled color pattern. say, i dunno, red, orange, blue, maybe even yellow...nope. you're fucked, or in this case, i'm fucked.i have been making a very simple side table for my place - with a big old shout-out to scott for giving me a hand yesterday....and now after doing the gluing and clamping and clearcoating, i'm ready to put my top on. a nice colored laminate. but i will now have to wait until tuesday until i can even see some different colors. good times. it's a donald judd inspired affair, the table is. who cares.



while at the propellor studio today i got to see what tobe was working on and it's amazing. it's bamboo and another wood i've forgotten and he's made a couple of tables and really fantastic looking legs for it by laminating the bamboo and other woods together. nice work tobe and pam.



today also marked the return of queen or princess aisha to the van horne 'hood. aisha used to be my neighbour and it's been almost six years since i have seen her. today she ventured down to the 'hood and i bought her a little snack at blake's in celebration of her visit. she got a kid now, an soon to be ex-husband and a new job at BCIT...so things are lookin' up....go aisha, go aisha....






tonight i'm gonna swing by marcy's birthday party for a quick snack and then home to bed as i have to be up at seven or eight to go tear up the floor at the topanga...i've never actually done that before, but i'm willing to give it a go.

ok...i need a shower....
