livin' the bc ferry lifestyle...

so-
yesterday i woke-up and thought, 'what the hell, i'll give this ferry action another go. go see floyd (my dad) in naniamo, have lunch, hang out, tell a few stories, hit the road back. of course, having to take a ferry both ways. last week when i tried this i was literally a minute late and missed the ferry and would have had to wait two hours for another. fuck that shit. so i left. also it would have been over $50.00 (nearly sixty) to travel one way. again-fuck that.
so yesterday as i handed my visa card to the woman at the ticket booth she said, 'that'll be $28.00'. huh? why so much less. practically the proper amount. i didn't ask any questions and split. i compared the two tickets, the one from the day before and yesterdays-the exact same except the price. the car was $19.00 cheaper and the passenger $6.00 cheaper. ok whatever.
so i got to naniamo and headed out to floyd's. he lives in nanoose bay-near where elvis and diana live. it's out of town and he has a great view of the bay. i hadn't told him i was coming but called in transit. he said he was just going to run some errand sbut would wait for me. so we ran some errands together. kinda like when i was a young guy and we'd do errands together. we went to the library, the post office and picked-up a newspaper. it was fun. then we went for a sandwich at a local deli. this is where things may have gone wrong for me.
i have been fighting a flu/cold and was just starting to tuen the corner-i thought. and that turkey sandwich may have had a little ectra goodness to it. when i was coming home on the ferry-which by the way was $48.00 on the way back....huh? it's like they have three prices scales depending on when you travel...nice. but once on the ferry the turkey sandwich made its presence known-again. big trouble. anyhow. i won't bore you with the details but by the time i got home my body had entered and entirely different sickness.
it was great to see floyd-except i forgot to take his xmas gift with me because i'm an idiot. he's got a great place and there's quite a lot to look at. photos, prints, paintings, etc. he's been doing some work with the nanoose bay naturalists, i think, helping to reintroduce the garry oak into the area. they've planted quite a few in the area including on the nanoose bay navel base.
well, the weather was shit and people drove like they'd never seen rain or snow before but over all it was fine. i don't get over there too often because of the ferry mainly, but i'm glad i did.
but what's up with the ferry prices? floyd says it's because they run it like a business...which i guess they do. but i've never really understood the price differences during peak hours and off-season. when it's super busy we're gonna jam you with high prices, when it's slow we're gonna give you a break. supply and demand i suppose. assholes.

have a great day. i'll he here hacking up a lung and blowin' my nose.
