i can't believe i paid 4 dollars for these three huge pork tacos and a coke...as the garbs would say, 'what a rip...'
i've become the easy mark.
not hard really.
big, white gingo.
the taxis that the hotel calls for me have, as it turns out, been charging me double - at least - what it should cost to get to where i want to go. it's regular practice here to ask for a price for the trip, in advance, before you get going so it's a done deal. the problem is, in my case - and many other tourists' case - i have no idea how far away it is to the destination so, is it a good price i'm getting? or shitty? turns out i've been getting a shitty deal. and i'm going to tell the hotel so - not that they'll care but i have been given a number to call, by eric, that is a better taxi company - the one they all use. and really, the cost is still low by canadian or american standards so it's fine...but i still don't like being taken advantage of.
fuckers.
i walked for miles, again, today making my way from an artisan market i was dropped off at, down reforma ave to chapultepec park - which is closed mondays - the biggest park in all of mexico city (that houses a couple museums, small lakes, etc...) was closed. kinda like closing stanley park on mondays...okey dokey. it was a great walk regardless and i saw some great things including so many that i had seen in pictures all these years.
after the closed park i walked back to ricardo's store to get a briefing on tonight's dinner plans and asked how to get to the mexico city upper playground store - which was another long walk and in the end kind of a disappointment. (it's a small store but that wasn't the worst part. i had to ask directions a few times and everyone kept giving me slightly different ways to go. but they were all certain they knew - but clearly they didn't. if you don't know. say you don't know).. but that's ok..it's in a cool part of town and i was able to find some lunch there...what? tacos again...fuckin' rights...when i stop loving tacos - just fuckin' kill me.
tonight's squash night for the boys and then afterwords we're gonna go to perso's favorite taco joint...this should be good after seeing him hoss-down the other night.
more as it develops.
g. xo
they have a bunch of different nativity scenes on one section of reforma...this one was odd...as was the luchador one below.
the most famous statue in mexico city. el angel de la independencia.
