try and stay with me here.
today at 2 pm i tried to cross the border at blaine, washington. the usual questions came up...then he asked me if i had gotten a ticket in california recently - yes, i had, and i was gonna pay it (this is the truth...i swear...) he then said that it could deny me entry today into the states...bummer. he also said i had a ticket in washingtion state (one i got with penelope last year that i was sure i had paid..really i did..) and that my licence had been suspended in washington state so i was now driving in washington without a licence and i was gonna be arrested. huh? but i wasn't driving in washington state...i hadn't been let in yet..ah, but as soon as you cross the actual border, not get through the border crossing, you're in washington state. shitty. ok. so now what? inside buddy.
fuck. see here's the deal...every time i have gone across the border in the last year and a half, they have scanned my passport and nothing happens. no tickets have shown up, no problems so i assumed, wrongly, that i was clean. even the cop later agreed with me that it seemed weird that i was fine before..anyhow...
ok.
so i went inside and after a few questions by a guy who was much more reasonable, i was told to have a seat. so i sat. for an hour and a half waiting for a local cop to show up and arrest me for the unpaid ticket and the driving under suspension they were now also charging me with. nice. then he finally shows up and really, he was a good guy. he explained everything and when i asked a question he gave me decent, honest answers - the other guys were, seemingly, hell bent on fucking me over. he told me i could take the car home and call the office in blaine tomorrow and try and figure something out, but said that this ticket, the new one, required me to stand in front of a judge...i can't just pay it over the phone. shitty. but i'm gonna try tomorrow and see what happens..i'm gonna get up early, phone the other county's and pay the traffic tickets, no sweat, and then call blaine and say i have done so...and try and pay the driving under suspension one now instead of in january when i have the court date...
the one border dude was funny, not in a good way..he said that i had entered washington state to commit a crime...huh? yes, i meant to drive under suspension...and really, it's a crime? really...? a crime....? perhaps a misdemeanor, but a crime...? murder's a crime. hijacking is a crime. etc....but a speeding ticket results in me commiting a crime...ok then. he said i was lucky i wasn't in jail...ok.
so we'll see. they said i can enter the states but i can't drive in washington state until it's all taken care of...so if i pay those tickets tomorrow and still can't pay the suspension ticket, i may head to the idaho border and cross there...i can drive in idaho..
