making my way back to you...

...that's a line from an old spinners song - it's a good one...i'm not sure where that comes from, me thinking about that song because what i've really been thinking about is how i really need ted nugent's double live gonzo on my ipod..."this one's dedicated to ..." good stuff. i guess maybe it's me making my way back to vancouver through this fucking snow and ice. this morning i awoke to more snow just this side of portland. full-on falling, sticking to the ground, snow...ok, it was a blizzard, i'll say it out loud now....a car in front of me just outside of kelso all of a sudden started to fishtail all over the road and then i found out why as i hit the ice they had just become intimate with...but true to my rockford roots, i made it through just fine but knew the grip on the steering wheel the person in front of me now had...the night before, or two nights befroe as i was leaving san francisco i saw an accident on the highway towards the I-5 that was super freaky....once again, i was less than a minute behind the actual accident...i'm not sure what happend but a fed/ex semi-trailer/tractor had barreled through the large impact barrels they put near overpass pillars to stop the impact somewhat, so there was/were pieces of the barrels all over the road....and then just up ahead, where the cops now were, was the semi trailer/tractor with basically the bottom half of his truck missing...i know, it sounds weird and it's even harder to describe..imagine the body of the tractor/truck without any wheels anymore, just sitting on the ground and the front of the truck peeled open like someone was gonna do some work under the hood...i couldn't and wouldn't take a picture...bad karma to take pics of accidents i figure. there was smoke and fluids everywhere...
i knew then i had to stop for one more in-n-out burger befroe heading onward to the I-5...with a milkshake....
in the morning i was met with a ton of snow and everyone at the truck stop where i had slept was so excited to see the snow...typically the drive between redding, ca and medford, oregon, can be a shiteater in the winter...but after about 50 miles, where i was still south of redding it all cleared up and i had a very nice drive through the mountains with very little in the way of snow or ice....some, but not much. it wasn't until the middle of oregon where it got shitty...lots of ice, snow, traffic back-ups and such...a few cars in the ditch, and few people trying a little too hard to make time...slow and steady wins this race...
so yes, today's drive was the shits up until around tacoma where it all cleared and now in seattle, whre i sit now at stumptown coffee, it's clear and not even a hint of snow or ice...but it's calling for more snow so i'll carry on...

see you soon. i think tonight i'll stay home and watch a movie...
