another day, another pool

oh..and two more burritos.
after roaming around portland for a few hours and figuring out i really wasn't into shopping or, really, roaming around, i decided to get some food...i realized, also, that i hadn't eaten anything and a la bonita burrito was exactly what the doctor ordered. or what he would order for me if i asked him what i should order...so...off to alberta st. i went. it was crazy hot in portland today as well and that made roaming around kinda tough. the heat just takes you down, and i don't mind a little heat but today i was sweating like a freak and needed to just eat and head north...maybe find a pool...
la bonita is one of my favorite burrito joints, anywhere. the food is great, made by people who know what's what, the price is right and it's fast but not fast food...make sense? i love it there. today's i ordered up the pork burrito a la bonita - which means they smothered it in sauce (your choice of mild red or hot green....i went mild today because they have a green sauce you can add on your own later so i had the best of both worlds.) and as usual, it was great. just the right amount of everything...a solid 8.7. i'm not sure what makes a high 9 or even a 10 but one day i'll find out...it'll just happen...i'll know.
so having done what i went there to do - plus a little looking around and such - i knew it was time to go...this trip was and has been all about the burritos and not much else...sometimes trips are about art or discovery or...not this time. this was a road trip in the pure sense of the term...well, except there were no frat boys or heavy drinking. it was fast and many miles were logged...on the coast it slowed a little as i really do like the water and the rocks and long miles of nothing but that, sort of why i love driving in the desert as well...and mid-week the cars are fewer and make for an easier time out there. so, full of burrito i headed towards seattle...
it had been a hot, sweaty day so i was on the look out for a pool or...well, a pool. i had, earlier in the day, gotten inside a quality in just outside portland but you still needed a key to get into the pool area. i did venture upstairs as well to look for a room left open that the maid hadn't gotten to yet, and there were a few, but my spidey sense told me it was time to leave...and as i was i ran into the front desk clerk roaming the halls and he gave me a dirty look...so i split. but now i was looking again. i looked at a few pools in a few hotels and motels but they were no-go's for different reasons...and then, like a beacon, i saw it. i knew from the highway i'd found my pool. the chehalis lodge. i parked near the back, next to the pool and had a little look-see. nice little pool that begged me to have a dip. so i did. it was wicked. and i was on my way. a short stop in at a pilot gas station/travel centre, to shave and i felt like a million bucks...
hello seattle.
i only had one thought in mind when i hit seattle - bimbos. bimbos cantina up near broadway and pike. they had another location for years on pine - bimbo's bitchin' burrito kitchen - that i ate my fair share at, but a couple years ago they opened the cantina. they make a good burrito there that almost makes you feel like you're eating healthy - not that burritos aren't good healthy food...but bimbo's has burritos with basmati rice, pumpkin seeds, etc...and it works. i had the burrito supreme with spicey shredded beef. a solid 8.0.
at the border tonight i was asked the usual questions...which i answered, as usual...but i was also asked if i had any weapons in the car so i could protect myself, or if i had bought any weapons down there that i was bringing back...and brass knuckles or...how long i had owned my car, if i had any modifications to it since i had been away....the border is so great...
nice to be home. cutting tomorrow...

i love you.
