selling out, shipping out...

when mick jones of the Clash was asked what selling out meant to him he said, i paraphrase..."well, a band is gonna do some shows, and they're gonna sell some tickets to the shows, so people line-up so they can buy tickets to the shows, and after they go on sale, and all the tickets have been sold to those shows. that's a sell-out"
i love that. he, of course, was referring to those who made comments about them selling out as a band and ...well, it's the age old discussion in rock and roll...and now it's come into my world again, not in any sort of serious way, but...i have some shoes i really love. well, loved. they've now blown out and are almost unwearable. they were made by Medium. and were great. they were a collaboration, this particular model, between them and a design house called House Industries. they were wood grain on the outside upper. and i have been trying to find another pair of them, in dead bins, old stock, on line, etc...so last night i tired to find the Medium web site but couldn't connect to it. i decided to contact House Industries to see if they could help...and my suspicions were confirmed, Medium has/had been bought by a much larger shoe company..i don't know who and well, don't care because i just want my old Medium shoes. i found a pair a 1/2 size smaller then the ones i have but, i'd just blow those out even quicker i suspect. bummer...it's like shoe week...new Blundstones, old Blundstones to the cobbler to see if te can be fixed, new New Balance, old Mediums out to pasture...
and it's time for a new deal. the face of the nation, not ours, but thiers, just south of us, could change in a big way tomorrow. and i kinda want to witness it first hand, well kinda. i'm thinking of driving south and finding a locals bar or something, somewhere with a big screen tv and lots of folks, and just sit with them and watch the results as they come in. could be super boring, could be wicked. i have a hockey game to night and am thinking i'll head out right after that. if you don't hear from me by thursday, send out a search party....
