burgers and breaking bad...

ailsa and fiona came over tonight for burgers - fiona's last before she heads off back to school for grade 3 and her seeing her pals again for the first time since leaving in june...i made ketchup today with a bunch of my larger tomatoes and if i do say so myself - it tastes pretty fuckin' good.
now it's a little breaking bad and then off to bed...back to the salt mine tomorrow and the magic of the movies...

these became a very nice ketchup...

fiona learns i like burgers and giving the finger.

nice burger.

hey bud.

i think...
i took a few pics today of the 'plant' outside my door and i think it may be starting to bud. or 'finish' as they say in the maryjane world. the pro growers. one of my smaller plants actually started first - i was told they'd 'finish' around the end of sept./early oct. so, we're looking like that may be true.
shit, i'll be happy if anything happens. one person told me it was too cold to bud but i know people have been growing stuff in b.c. for years outdoors so that statement makes no sense to me. but, the proof will be over the next few weeks/next month or so.
sometimes it's stinky out there.

bonus south of the border action.

the tale has been told but here are a few more pics from yesterday's action south of the border.

just a guy who needs gas.

mishi loves finding that special outfit at value village each time we go down. yesterday was no exception.

the line-up one way - back to canada.

the line-up the other - back to the US.

by the numbers

we crossed the border around 7 a.m. sunday morning and only had a five minute, at most, wait so our day started out pretty well...sure it took us nearly three hours to get back across to canada but in the meantime...
we were the first in the store at target outside of bellingham and that made things great as we were going to go there anyways so getting it out of the way early was a bonus...then it was off to seattle - we'd hit bellingham on the way back. we rolled into seattle just before ten, i think and headed to get some coffee at stumptown - where i finally caved and bought one of their big glass jars full of beans just because i love the jar - though i am a huge fan of their coffee so really it's win-win. later on mishi got some ground coffee to go so she and the garbs would have fuel for a while.

the it was downtown to scope out the nike store - where i bought some age inappropriate shoes but was told by the salesman that they weren't, they were just cool...good sales dude....after a few more stops there we headed to a part of town we'd not really meant to go to - south seattle, sort of, and discovered a few mexican deli's, one that was half chinese food market - like T & T market, and the other half mexican goodies...weird. they even had a little mexican taqueria in the back that scared me a little. we were outta there fairly fast after picking up some pato hot sauce.

a antique joint was next - mishi always being on the hunt for old dress patterns that she's now turning into wallets and passport holders - you should go see them at the pickle...pretty cool.

the it was lunch time...so off to bimbo's bitchin' burrito kitchen in capitol hill...i like that joint. good food, fast, great decor, tasty lemonade, good margs, good stuff. i had mentioned on the way up there that i needed to get gas and would after lunch.

i didn't.
and off to fremont we went. with even less gas than before.
we trucked around freemont for a while and then decided to go to bellingham and finish what we started.
still no stop for gas.
it was there, along the i-5 just before marysville, that i felt the car stop doing what it should be doing. and i began to just drift, engine stopped, in neutral, seeing how far i could get...oh, and i was in the fast lane and i couldn't get over to the side of the road i needed/wanted to be on. four lanes of heavy traffic stopped that thought.
i was calm. surprisingly calm. mishi spotted a gas station over yonder and i just had to figure out how to get there. i told mishi just to hang tight and i would be right back. i hoped over the median, because the gas station was on the other side of the road, how to get there still a mystery. and then, i waited for my chance to run across the four lanes of heavy traffic and then, hopefully, my way to the other side and then figure out the rest.
and there it was, the break and i made a run for it. i'm sure it looked bad and dangerous...but it was fine.
then i had to climb down a steep embankment, through brush, to another fence that i had to walk along until there was a low point and i hoped over and walked over to the gas station - where there were a few cops interrogating a couple of girls who seemed slightly drunk...nice.
and then, after filling the gas can i had to buy, i made the return trip, over the railing, up the embankment, and then, as mishi had her camera trained on me, make a run for it across the traffic again, this time holding the gas can, and not get killed.
all good. and once filled with our expensive gallon of gas we were away again. to bellingham to hit trader joe's and la gloria mercado.
all in all a great fun day...except for running out of gas and waiting in line for three hours to get back, but even in the end - after a slight meltdown by me for five minutes or so, that wasn't even so bad...and since we had gone to trader joe's i got to have a weird dinner...i had some beef jerky, followed by a trader joe's all-fruit popscicle, some graham wafers and some mango/orange juice. good stuff.

more good times...

it didn't have a chance

a big day out that included a big burrito, coffees, running out of gas on the i-5 in the fast lane, running across four lanes of oncoming traffic on the i-5, the buying of age inappropriate shoes, trader joe's and the discovery of modelo especial beer in bellingham.
a report soon but not before some sleep.

more tomorrow.

like champs

the burgers at refuel didn't have a chance.

the garbs and i went to refuel last night and ate like prize fighting champs! they are making new versions of their burger and we're trying them all - the animal style - after the in-n-out burger version 'animal style', the big mac, the dirty burger and the dirty animal or filthy animal..we've tried them all...they really do make a great burger - but i know i've said that before.
today it was lawn action all over town, some clean-up at ailsa's and some various errands to make life a little tidier. the tomatoes on the deck are petering out but still fill a bowl each morning - of which i have been taking the cherry ones to work each day or so for the boys. the larger are gonna be made into ketchup very soon. the maryjane has shown signs of budding but nothing concrete yet...pics to show you very soon.
tonight i had dinner with tammy and dez at topanga - where i haven't been for a long time...tammy who is now in school for massage therapy and who pulls less shifts now at jj bean so i rarely see her...i hope she's getting good grades. it was great to see her...she opens the coffee shop tomorrow so i may go by on our way to washington and get a shot of something.
tomorrow morning, super duper early, mishi and i are heading south of the border to hit trader joe's, eat some mexican food, buy crap and come on home. it seems like the thing to do. so we're gonna.

have a great sunday!

a new sherrif in town

last night, as i was getting reacquainted with my place, the garbs called and asked me if i wanted to go for ice cream...at first said no but then became kinda obsessed with the idea. i hadn't had any ice cream for a while - a shitty summer will do that - so i called them back and, when shauna came back from delivering her stuff to her place, i drove her downtown and then grabbed mishi and the garbs and headed off.

they had a new place they wanted to take me to down near the fairmont hotel on burrard. (i believe 'he who can not be named on the blog' took them there the first time...) it's called bella gelateria and has some association with milano coffee roasters...i think. but who cares - that fuckin' ice cream is wicked!
a nice treat right before bedtime.

rib night at the garnyard

shauna and i had a ribfest tonight at the garnyard...nice. and here's my big hint of the day - a duh hint - don't buy ribs on granville island buy them elsewhere...i knew and know this but had to yesterday and man, they are expensive there...like 40% more...go to columbus meats. love those guys. and better ribs. i think.
ribs with salad made with stuff from my garden...nice action.
shauna and stella head to their place tomorrow and will fall in love with their own bed again. welcome home.

have fun tomorrow.

nice action.

bombers win! bombers win!

yup. it's true. we won our first title last night in north van winning the spring/summer league playoffs. they came to fight but in the end the Replacements were no match for us or our stellar goal tending - drew, our saviour. a 4-1 final sealed it.
now, in short order, the start of the winter league.
