them's weird trees...

so today after venturing down to a coffeeshop i had seen the day before-i have to try and find some good coffee in this town...and i should say that it hasn't happened yet. so, what was i saying? oh, after getting a coffee i headed up to some mall thing in the hills. renne said to check it out. kind of an outdoor mall. the only place i actually went into was this place called A.J.'s..all i can say is, imagine meinhardt on south granville but on steroids. oh, and a sushi bar inside and a bbq pit thing outside. i bought a couple sodas and split.
i then headed to Seguaro West. a seguaro is a cactus for those who may not know. it's the cactus you've seen a million times in bugs bunny or roadrunner cartoons. and Seguaro West is a national park just outside of tucson. you see literally thousands of seguaros on the way there but in the actual park, which is a dirt road thing, you are surrounded by them. thousands of them. and i guess rattlesnakes.
i found a toy store near the coffeeshop as well and was chatting with the dude who owns it. good guy. store needs a little help.

here's the day in pictures.

nights shots in tucson...

we went out and drove around tonight and had a little mexican food at a family joint...it was ok...nothing to write home about, like i am i suppose, but it was nice to eat dinner with renee...then we went driving around a bit and actually ended up at Target. i took a few pics so here ya go...

a late night taco/burrito truck.

a mag tire shop on the one of the main drags. aren't they gonna get stolen?

every town needs a no-tell motel

i have no idea what they're saying but...

i drove around today just listening to the spanish radio station, which i know is kinda dorky and stupid, but also kinda romantic...not that kinda romantic but , like a romantic vision of the way it is or should be. i know that probably makes no sense but it made sense today to listen to that FM station as i drove around tucson.
i did a few errand type things-coffee, breakfast stuff, washed my car, got some groceries, did a little laundry...then i headed over to the university area and walked around and ended up at Epic a coffee shop with too many hippies. one hippy is too many so the 15 that were there needed a good bath and a little less pot. the coffee was good and i sat there for a an hour or so working on cancer show and at one point realized why i had stopped writing it. it's not very good...but i worked away just because i said to myself i would and i think i made it a little better...or not. i chatted, not because i wanted to, with a couple of women issy's age-but not nearly as cool...and then hit the road to just have a little look around. i drove down to south tucson, took some pics and had a small burrito. pretty casual day overall.
tomorrow i may go to the missle silo out near green valley. renee's dad was tying to get me to go there the last time i was here but i had baseball on the brain. now seems like a good time to go.

here are some pics from the day.

garbs new toy and dinner out with spike

not much new to report....last night while i was looking at the toys in biskup's place i noticed an acid head dunny...garbs really wanted one of these so i called him and asked him if he wanted me to grab him one...a bit of a premium price but still cheaper than ebay and the boards...so i got it...tim biskup was outside so i asked him to sign it for the garbs...or garbis as it was signed. then tim drew a turd being eaten by the toy's mouth..or mouth he drew on it...because i told him the garbs will eat anything....so there ya go garbs. the other two toys are the new hot and cold set of pollards also by tim biskup-in case you care...
renee and i went to the congress for dinner tonight and then went driving around looking at places i'm going to go tomorrow...and saw a mexican place we're gonna have dinner at tomorrow night...i'm happy to see her.

night night

there ya go garbs!

these two are bad as i didn't want to use a flash but...well..and the color is all wrong but garbs needed to see these...

arizona you're my lady...

woke-up this morning just outside of plam springs...invcredibly windy last night on the highway...while driving at one poiunt, it blew so hard i had this strange immediate thought that i had just blown a tire...i oulled off the raod and everything was fine but it was kinda scary. i had a couple of close calls while changing lanes because of the wind and almost misses and exit, that would have completely boned me if i had missed it, but another driver saw my problem and let me in at the last moment. truth be told-and maybe issy shouldn't read this part...i actually was headed for a small division (see ravine...) in the freeway that way have landed me more than a few feet below the freeway and my next call would have been to triple A...good times...
anyhow..still very windy this morning. at times it feels like the car is labouring in the wind or that i may be swept off the road...but i haven't been yet...
i've made it to tucson and have made phone contact with renee and am heading over to her place now...i'm very excited to see her. she is, without a dubt, one of my favorite people in the whole world...

here are some pics from the art/toy showe last night in pasadena...thanks to corie for talking me into staying in pasadena and not just hitting the raod...it was a grat time. i met a few people from the kid robot board, one of which was in the show, and another wman and her husband who run a toy company, october toys.

ok...off to renees...

more details later...

don't stray from the el presidente!

i made a mistake. a big one. last night as i was leaving sheryl's place...which by the way was a total bust...her man was on his way to her house as well-which is fine by me...and he had his tow kids in tow and when he got there was none to happy to see me there...sure, he shook my hand, made chit chat...but the look...man, i had to get outta there. andhow...she talked me into trying this other burrito place called...whatever the spanich word for 'corner' or 'the corner" is..and it was shitty...two lame ass chicken enchiladas with a lame ass green sauce...shit. i was so bummed out afterwords i hit the road south on the 101 looking for an in-n-out burger...

it's fine.

got to LA this morning and couldn't find a shower on the 101 so i'm without, still...it's fine. it's not like in the simmer when i wake-up in my car and smell like a crackhead at caroll and hastings...smeatmaster.
i'm afraid i lost on control of my hair..i'm such a girl...i had to get it cut...sorry k-win..it was driving me crazy...now i have a new do courtesy of ramona at rudy's on melrose...right across the street from the new kid robot store...

after i looked in kid robot i made my way down to blackmarket to see the jeff soto show..pretty good...and as i left there the day was just heating up...shorts, t-shirt, sneakers...maybe i should out on some sunscreen...well, maybe not that hot..but nice.
i got some lunch at pink's hot dogs and then headed out to pasdena where every fuckin' loser here is all hyped on trojans football fever...for the record they lost to UCLA and i could care less excopt it made finding a parking spot very hard...

in an hour or so is the tim biskup xmas party...details later...should be lots of geeks..i was by there earlier and they're already lined up outside the shop...there's a show at mixxi-bang as well so....geekfest in full effect.

much love

bruce barry was a workin' man...

he used to love that econoline van.

in the late 70's marty basso and i, along with some other plas from time to time, would sit in his parent's house-i guess his house, in prince rupert and listen to music at very high volumes. it was actually his brother's room and dan always had the very best of stereo gear. we would listen to music, talk about girls, drink the odd beer, and listen to more loud music. we would venture out and buy a chow mein bun-that's what they called it, at the pagoda, and then eventually end-up back in dan's room. one of the albums we listened to a lot was the neil young Decade album. a greatest hits record of sorts. tonight's the night was a favorute. "bruce barry was a workin' man, he used to love that econoline (pause) van..." last night just outside of yreka california that song came on the stereo...perfect. and then shortly after....rick james' "give it to me baby"....not as perfect but, have a listen sometime to that song. and listen to rick play that bass guitar. jesus. scary but, i think he knew how to handle that thing.

some shots this morning on the way to the city.

the drive this morning from corning to san francisco was uneventful...as usual. rush hour traffic, near misses, etc...one in the city it became evident that parking was gonna be a problem right downtown...and i don't mean on the street but in the car garages as well....i went into one and got all the way to the top and it was stacked three deep with the attendants saying they could make it work...nope. i'm outta here.

i headed up to haight street instead. kid robot, giant robot, shoe stores, etc...i also went against all conventon and bypassed pancho villa to try a place i have always wanted to try, el balazo. pretty good but the chicken wasn't hot enough so by the end of it, it was kinda cold...i give it a 7 overall.

i bought some shoes. i had wanted a pair of adidas last year but thought they were too narrow for my ultra wide feet. i saw these babies though and i had to give them a try. a pair of adidas with graphics designed by dave kinsey. they are either super ugly or great. they feel good...i like 'em. i also picked-up a book at upper playground that features the art of Morning Breath. they are a san francisco collective, kind of. two graphic design guys ho started collaberating on art together. i had seen their stuff before at another store that's now closed. their work is excellent.
check 'em out.

i left the city and am now in los gatos trying to track down sheryl...i don't have her number...i e.mailed her so...we'll see. i'll go to her place as well and try and find her...if not, it's dinner and on to LA and the art show at black market.

ok...i need a nap.

oh..and i stopped by the university of california, berkeley. i just wanted to get out and walk around and it seemed like a good place to do that..

good morning corning!

woke up this morning in a parking lot in corning, california...right next to the flying J truck stop and the truck wash. good times.
i managed to get it together and had a shower at the flying J and then a great breakfast there as well...i love truck stop diners and the waitress'. they know what's what. had some eggs and bacon with awesome hashbrowns...coffee, juice....corning is the olive capital of CA but i had none this early in the morning...
i'm off to San Francisco to visit pancho villa and then out to los gatos to see sheryl and adale restaurant, the home of the original el presidente!

have a great day...

rock on...
